  Стоимость строительства Uhuru II грузоподъемностью 1,8 тыс. тонн превысила $16 млн

  Теплоход «Uhuru II» — первое грузовое судно, построенное в Кении с нуля — спущено на воду на верфи Kenya Shipyards в присутствии президента страны Уильяма Руто, сообщает кенийский телеканал NTV.

  Это событие делает Кению пионером судостроения в Восточной и Центральной Африке.

  Uhuru II грузоподъемностью 1,8 тыс. тонн было построено в партнерстве с голландской фирмой Damen Shipyards. Стоимость строительства превысила $16 млн. Первый рейс судна, предназначенного для перевозки нефти и других грузов, состоится на озере Виктория в ближайшее время. 100-метровый танкер станет дополнением к Uhuru I водоизмещением 1260 тонн, поставленному в Кении в 1966 году шотландской компанией.

  По словам управляющего директора кенийской верфи, новому нефтетанкеру требуется всего 10 часов, чтобы добраться в Уганду и Танзанию, тогда как у Uhuru I на это уходит 17 часов.
