Kelvin Hughes Australian integration partnership with AMS goes from strength to strength

Kelvin Hughes is attending PACIFIC 2017 showing its commitment to supporting its integration partners in Australasia - AMS Defence and AMS Maritime (both subsidiaries of the AMS Group – AMSG), who together will provide world class radar technology, service and support to The Royal Australian Navy on their current and potentially future program’s such as the Future Frigate Program, Offshore Patrol Vessel Program and Collins Class upgrades, the company said in its press release.

The biennial Pacific International Maritime Exposition, will be held in Sydney from Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 5th October 2017. As the only comprehensive international exhibition of its kind in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, PACIFIC 2017 provides the essential showcase for commercial maritime and naval defence industries to promote their capabilities in the region.

Kelvin Hughes with its solid state Doppler SharpEye™ radar systems and AMS Defence with it’s unsurpassed in-country installation, support and service network, will work together to focus on the next generation of Australian maritime programmes including ANZAC Class support, the various sustainment programmes and also submarine technology upgrades with the Kelvin Hughes SharpEye™ Doppler radar downmast variant.

Cooperation expertise also extends to the coastal and port surveillance projects in Australia which span Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) systems for commercial and industrial ports and also to the various coastal surveillance agencies. Kelvin Hughes with the key support of AMS Defence have already been hugely successful in the region with Kelvin Hughes providing SharpEye™ to the ANZAC Class Frigates previously and AMS Defence recently providing the in-service support.

AMS Maritime has integrated numerous radars in diverse locations for coastal surveillance and port applications such as Onslow LNG terminal, Port of Darwin VTS and Port of Dampier VTS and most recently commenced works on Port Hedland the world’s largest bulk export port. Typically, AMS Maritime provide the integrated VTS package and Kelvin Hughes provides the radar sensor – SharpEye™.

SharpEye™ is a solid state radar sensor that employs a unique package of radar techniques including Doppler processing, enhanced pulse compression and Moving Target Detection (MTD) to bring a range of user benefits which includes operation in high clutter environments whereby the clutter is removed in the sensor itself through internal clutter filters, yet outputs the radar targets of interest to the radar processor leaving a clear easy to manage situationally aware picture for the operator to view. SharpEye™’s USP is the detection of low Radar Cross Section (RCS) targets in severe weather conditions, earlier.

These sensor capability benefits when applied to shipborne navigation and situational awareness systems and land based radar installations provides unprecedented surveillance capabilities to the end customer.
