Swire Pacific Offshore wins the Environment Protection Award at the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2015

Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) won the Environment Protection Award at the 8th Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia awards ceremony and gala dinner held on Monday, 16 November 2015 in Hong Kong. Organised by Seatrade, the event was attended by close to 400 key representatives from over 70 companies, the company said in its press release.

Twelve competitive awards were presented during the ceremony. SPO was recognised as the winner of the Environment Protection Award for its strong investment in green technology, ISO compliance and continuous efforts to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and promote environmental awareness. This is the first time that SPO has won this award.

“This winner was chosen for its clear and defined green policies, and the exceptional progress it has made in the area of environmental performance,” said the judges of the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2015. The award winners were selected from 54 finalists by an independent panel of judges comprising industry leaders and chaired by Editor, Seatrade Maritime News, Marcus Hand.

“SPO is privileged to receive this award from the distinguished panel of judges and the organisers. As a company, SPO is committed to achieve a Net Zero Environmental Impact and we have been working towards this goal since 2008. Our activities in support of this goal cover practical actions in our management offices and on board our vessels worldwide, as well as undertaking various environmental and conservation projects and initiatives around the world. This award is a strong recognition of our ongoing Sustainable Development efforts and in particular, our environmental protection and enhancement efforts,” said Simon Bennett, SPO’s General Manager for Sustainable Development.

SPO was also shortlisted as the finalist in two other award categories, namely the Ship Owner/Operator Award and the Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

SPO takes a long term view of its business and believes in operating safely, professionally and responsibly in order to meet the needs of all its stakeholders, both at present and in the future. Over the years, SPO has received numerous accolades for Sustainable Development. In October 2015, SPO clinched the Leadership in Sustainability award at the 16th Annual Business Awards 2015 organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore. In 2014, SPO was presented the Sustainable Business Award for Business Responsibility and Ethics at the Responsible Business Forum held in Singapore. SPO was also awarded the Sustainable Business Award (Large Enterprise) at the Singapore Sustainability Awards 2013 organised by the Singapore Business Federation and was recognised as one of the top 14 eco-friendly companies in Singapore. SPO has also received the Singapore Environmental Council Eco Office Certification for three consecutive times since 2010.

SPO is a fully owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited. Since its inception in 1975, the diversified marine services conglomerate has expanded beyond conventional anchor-handling and platform supply operations to include a wide range of marine services including salvage, seismic survey, oil spill response, windfarm installation, decommissioning and subsea/ROV support.
