Siem Offshore takes control with DNV GL's Synergi Project software

Siem Offshore has chosen DNV GL’s Synergi Project to manage nine newbuilding projects, DNV GL says.

The software is used to optimize the collaboration between Siem Offshore and the yards and to keep control of building processes.

Siem Offshore’s large newbuilding programme, with nine offshore vessels currently under construction, has led the company to acquire Synergi Project software. Synergi Project, a tailor-made solution for ship owners and shipyards, allows all involved parties to share completely up-to-date information for collaboration in ship design, ship building and aftermarket.

“We are very positive to our experience with the implementation of Synergi Project,” says Jonny Oluf Hansen, Project Manager Newbuilding at Siem Offshore.

Siem Offshore serves the global oil and gas industry with a modern, environmentally friendly and technically advanced fleet of 46 ships.

The company was looking to replace many different individual systems for reporting and follow-up, some of which were in-house solutions or Excel sheets. A ship design project involves collaboration on a massive scale, including thousands of emails, comments, documents, revisions and approvals from owners, yards, designers, class societies and authorities. Sharing the information, having a common and current database, and monitoring follow-ups can be a constant challenge.

When Siem Offshore decided to purchase a dedicated software solution, several systems were evaluated. “We decided that Synergi Project had been validated over long time use by other users. It also had all the functionality and requirements we were looking for. We’re still in the implementation phase, but everyone on site is positive to the new system. There’s a low threshold to start using Synergi Project,” says Hansen.

The software’s strong off-the-shelf performance was a key factor for the decision to go with Synergi Project. “We didn’t have to spend a lot of time in order to customize the software. We had training for the users, then it was just plug-and-play”, he says.

Reporting is just one of many examples of the efficiency gained by using Synergi Project. Previously, it would take time to consolidate information from various sources in order to create reports. Reports can now easily be created, even directly onsite using mobile devices or tablets. All of the relevant information will automatically go into reports, and they will be sent immediately to the relevant people.

The company is so positive to the benefits of using Synergi Project that it is considering requiring shipyards to report through the system in future shipbuilding contracts.

Siem Offshore Inc. serves the global oil and gas industry with a modern, environmentally friendly and technically advanced fleet. The fleet consists of 46 vessels with focus on low fuel consumption, 9 of these are under construction. The fleet includes large Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels, Platform Supply Vessels, Multipurpose field & ROV Support Vessel and Offshore Subsea Construction Vessels designed to meet the most challenging environments. The latest addition to the fleet is 2 Well-Intervention Vessels.

DNV GL is the world-leading provider of software for a safer, smarter and greener future in the energy, design and engineering, risk assessment, asset integrity and optimization, QHSE, and ship management. Our worldwide presence facilitates a strong customer focus and efficient sharing of industry best practice and standards.
