CIMC Raffles deliveres JU2000E-400 ft coastal driller 4001 successfully

On August 13th ,2014, JU2000E 400 ft Coastal Driller 4001, constructed by CIMC Raffles was delivered to Coastal Contracts Bhd as the ninth jack-up in Yantai, the company said in its press release.

Coastal Driller 4001 rig is 70.36 meters long, 76 meters wide and 9.45 meters high, with leg length of 167 meters, spud can diameter of 18 meters, designed draft of 6.7 meters, accommodation of 140 persons, maximum operation depth of 122 meters (400ft), maximum drilling depth of 10668 meters (35000 ft), and minimum operation temperature of -20 degree. The rig was classified to ABS, with basic design by American company F&G, drilling package by Norway AKER MH, detail design and construction design by Shanghai offshore institute and Yantai offshore institute which belong to CIMC Group, and completed construction and delivery in CIMC Raffles.

Based on the design and construction experience of delivered Jack-ups, CIMC Raffles optimized and innovated critical technology, craft procedure, and the construction, mating and installment of key structure and equipment: it employed derrick barge to complete mating legs for the first time in China in the floating condition of main hull; it managed weighing cantilever in rig creatively and completing pre-blasting trail and jacking trail test in ultimate state firstly; it achieved designing, constructing, installing and commissioning multi-blocks in parallel by employing the principle of “modular design and construction”, which improved the quality and reliability and reduced the construction period.

As regards to its drilling package, it’s the first time for China offshore incorporation to choose Norway Aker. CIMC Raffles created brand new project management cooperation model, and that is, shipyard and Aker carried out profound cooperation during drilling package’s preliminary design period and construction plan management.

About the production of critical components “Jack-up legs”, CIMC Raffles researched and developed core technology and craft procedure independently and overcame difficult issues firstly, such as deformation control of ultra-high strength and thickness plate, temperature control, quenching and tempering of material deformation, deformation control of rack cutting, welding craft etc., by which it fulfilled the manufacturing of rack bar and chord with approval of classification society.

Mr. Huang Zhenxing, the CEO of Coastal Contracts Bhd, said that Coastal Driller 4001 is Coastal’s first choice of serial drilling rigs. Its successful delivery proved the construction capability of CIMC Raffles and strengthened Coastal’s confidence of devoting to offshore field.
