Nor-Shipping reveals stellar line-up for Ocean Leadership Conference

A host of global business, political and thought leaders have today been revealed as some of the headline names set to appear at Nor-Shipping’s Ocean Leadership Conference on 4 June. IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Lise Kingo, CEO of the UN Global Compact, Ann-Christin Andersen, TechnipFMC’s Chief Digital Officer, and technologist Ramez Naam, Chair of Energy & Environmental Systems at Singularity University, are the first high profile names to be made public.

This year’s Nor-Shipping, taking place from 4 to 7 June in Lillestrøm and Oslo, Norway, has refined its traditional opening conference to engage with, communicate to and outline the visions of true leaders within the maritime, ocean and public arenas. As such it will offer unique, high level insights from the individuals influencing and enabling industry’s ocean space strategy.

It is, Nor-Shipping Director Per Martin Tanggaard says, an opportunity not to be missed.

“The Ocean Leadership Conference marks a declaration of intent,” he comments. “Nor-Shipping has committed itself to supporting maritime and enabling our industry to claim a leading, profitable and sustainable position in the evolving ocean space.

“This conference will gather the people and organisations – both on stage and in the audience – that will help make that objective a reality. Together they will map global trends, deliver insights on business opportunities, and discuss the solutions that will help us all balance commercial success with environmental responsibility. We have many more exciting names to come in the following weeks, ensuring that this gathering of great minds will deliver powerful takeaways, insight and value for those in attendance, and for our industry as a whole.”

The conference will follow the day after Solberg hosts an international meeting in Oslo to help develop the UN Global Compact’s Sustainable Ocean Business Action Platform, with industry and political leaders then heading to Nor-Shipping to continue and further collaboration and discussion.

Alongside the Norwegian Prime Minister, Kingo will focus on the goal of achieving responsible business practices, while Lim outlines and discusses the evolution of the regulatory landscape. Andersen meanwhile will focus on how new technology can empower businesses, while computer scientist and futurist Naam will look ahead at the next wave of game changing innovation and development.

“Nor-Shipping has a reputation for looking to the future, providing a unique platform for the latest products, services and thinking,” Tanggaard adds. “As we reposition as ‘Your Arena for Ocean Solutions’ we’ll aim to provide our maritime customers with the partners, ideas and strategic thinking that will help them face that future with confidence and enthusiasm. The Ocean Leadership Conference is a key part of that proposition.”

In addition to the opening conference activity, Nor-Shipping will also offer a programme of panel debates, round table discussions, presentations and think tank talks. These will be held within the exhibition arena at Lillestrøm (including in the newly rebranded Hall A, the Blue Economy Hall) and at venues across Oslo. Further details of the programme will be announced soon.

Nor-Shipping 2019 is expected to attract over 30,000 key decision makers, with around 1000 exhibiting companies. The Ocean Leadership Conference will take place in the Thon Hotel Arena Lillestrøm, which sits adjacent to Nor-Shipping’s main 21,000m2 exhibition space.
