Russian Maritime Register of Shipping holds the conference on containers and container transportation
The conference “Containers and Container Transportation – Problems, Solutions and Perspectives” was held by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). The representatives of 60 container industry organizations took part in the event held on 21 – 22 March, 2017.
The achievements of Russian companies in the area of applied research, development of innovative container types and implementation of advanced technologies in their production were presented at the conference. For instance, first Russian high-tech tank containers for transportation of liquid helium and liquid hydrogen were designed by JSC NPO Geliymash. “Science and technological center ApATeCh-Dubna” carries out the work on designing High Cube reefer containers from fiber-resinforced plastic (FRP) for perishable goods that will be sufficiently cheaper than the foreign samples. Uralcryomash JSC develops cryogenic containers that will allow not only supply liquefied natural gas by different means of transport but also may be used as storage and refill reservoir. The projects are realized with the RS participating.
According to Alexander Fetisov, Head of RS Container Department, the Register is ready to render further all-out support and consulting assistance to the industry enterprises. He informed that estimating the current situation the RS was the first classification society to introduce the requirements to tank containers with FRP shells to the RS normative documents related to technical supervision during the design, manufacture and service of this transportation equipment.
In March, 2017 an initiative was sent by the Russian Federation to the International Maritime Organization in respect of introducing the requirements to tank containers with FRP shells in the international normative base (in particular, to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code). “The introducing of the requirements to tank containers with FRP shells in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code will allow to use such containers during the multimodal transportation without limitation, i.e. to apply them for the carriage by automobile, river and railway transport as well as in the international maritime transportation”, noted A. Fetisov.
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) performs its activity at the container transportation market since 1973 when the USSR joined the International Convention for Safe Containers and the Customs Convention. At present, RS represents the Bureau International des Containers within the territory of the post-Soviet space, is a full-member of the International Tank Container Organization (ITCO), participates in the development of the normative base on containers within the International Organization for Standardization and the “Containers” Technical Committee of GOST R.
The container conference is held every second year. Traditionally, the leading organizations of container industry engaged in design, manufacture, testing, transportation, operation of containers are participating of this conference. Among them: Scientific centres – ApATeCh-Dubna scientific technological testing centre, CNIIMF, Promtransniiproject; criogenic equipment manufacturers – Geliymash, Uralcryomash; large Russian transport and logistical operators – TransContainer, Infotech-Baltika M, United Transport Company, as well as Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology, RZD, Operation Centre of Ground-based Space Infrastructure Items (TESNKI), etc.
