Russian Maritime Register of Shipping takes part in the International Conference Ice Class Vessels
On 27 – 30 October, 2014 Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) took part in the International Conference Ice Class Vessels, which was held in Seoul, South Korea.
Representatives of major corporate shipbuilding giants, leading classification societies, scientific organisations, shipping companies, suppliers of equipment for ice ships, as well as the representatives of the Arctic Council, IMO and the International Chamber of Shipping forgathered there. Recent amendments to the Polar Code, emerging trends in designing of ice class ships, as well as the matters related to minimisation of risks of oil products spill and emergency arrangements in the Arctic Seas, ice reconnaissance for safe navigation in the Arctic, ships' winterisation for operation of ships in cold climatic conditions have been discussed by the specialists.
A report on modern trends in the development of the RS normative documents for ships operated in the Arctic waters was presented by Mrs Maria Batrakova, an expert of the RS Research Department. International Conference Ice Class Vessels is one of the largest platforms in the Asia addressing the paths for development of shipping in the Arctic Region.
