The first berth in the Wrangel Bay was built in summer 1973 but the port’s official history began on 28 February 1974 with the order No 36 on organization of commercial seaport “Vostochny Port” signed by USSR Minister of Maritime Fleet.

More than 10 years ago, Vostochny Port JSC joined Port Management Company LLC, Russia's major coal port holding. Apart from Vostochny Port JSC, the holding incudes Rosterminalugol JSC (Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region). Total throughput of sea terminals run by Port Management Company LLC makes about 50 million tonnes per year, which is over one third of all seaborne coal exports from Russia. The ceremonial launching of the new tandem-type railcar dumper as part of Phase 3 was held at the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The ceremonial launching of a storage area line including main conveyor, stacker and reclaimer took place at Phase 3 in the framework of the 12th International Forum “Transport of Russia”. A facility for empty railcars departure has been recently put into operation at Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station.

In 2018, Vostochny Port JSC transshipped more than 24 million tonnes of premium class export coal. With the introduction of Phase 3, Vostochny Port JSC will handled about 45 million tonnes per year while total throughput of the terminals run by Port Management Company LLC will increase to 70 million tonnes per year. Vostochny Port JSC is going to launch its coal terminal’s Phase 3 in the year of its 45th anniversary.
