Yury Tsvetkov congratulates Novoship on its 50th anniversary

President of Novoship Yury Tsvetkov congratulates the team of Novoship on the 50th anniversary of the company. IAA PortNews is pleased to publish the greetings:

    Dear colleagues and friends!

On 20 January 2017 Novorossiysk Shipping Company (Novoship) celebrates the 50-year anniversary of its foundation. Over these years we have considerably strengthened our positions both in Russia and worldwide. Today, Novoship is a qualified fleet operator with vessels under its management carrying over 50 mln t of crude oil per year. There are state-of-the-art tankers with deadweight of up to 320,000 t in our arsenal.

Novoship is a well known name, a company entrusted to carry the cargoes of the most demanding consignors. Half a century is not a long period on a worldwide scale of economic activities but it is a considerable age for a shipping company. Over those five decades young cadets have turned into honoured veterans being replaced with young specialists armed with new technologies, dreaming of engaging themselves in the life of the global shipping industry leader. From their first sea practice they start absorbing special culture of the company, relying on traditions and professionalism of their teachers who, in their turn, are always ready to support young people, to share their experience.

Continuity has always been a basic principle of our company. We are proud of the career school and traditions developed in Novorossiysk and never forget the names of those who were the originators of our business. Among them was Orest Sychenikov, first head of Novorossiysk Shipping Company. Over a decade he brought the company to the first position in the USSR, brought together the infrastructure of Novorossiysk, Sochi and Tuapse ports, Anapa and Gelendzhik port stations, Novorossiysk and Tuapse ship repair yards. With the efforts of the shipping company a nautical school was established in Novorossiysk in 1968. Later on, Novorossiysk Higher Engineering Maritime College was set up in 1975 (now Ushakov Maritime State University). First graduates of those educational institutions joined the ranks of the shipping company and we are still in close partnership with the Ushakov University. Many citizens of Novorossiysk remember the changes in the city driven by the shipping company: construction of new residential areas, hotels, kindergartens, a hospital and an outpatient clinic for seafarers as well as other important facilities. Novorossiysk obtained an unofficial title of Russia’s tanker capital.

In 1992, the shipping company was reincorporated as a joint-stock company and named Novoship. In the challenging period of transition toward a market economy the company was able to adapt to new conditions and stay afloat. With renovation of the fleet and modernization of the management it was possible to preserve employment and reinforce our positions in the global market. By its 40th anniversary Novoship had become the most effective fleet operator in the country.

New era of the company history began on 20 June 2007: the assets of the two largest shipping companies, Sovcomflot and Novoship, were consolidated by the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. That consolidation originated a company able to succeed in providing transport support to growing exports of Russian hydrocarbons and to national oil & gas projects. Among our partners are the world’s largest oil & gas companies and oil traders and we are grateful to them for this partnership.

Novoship was actively involved in accomplishing a high-priority task of the state – arranging and holding the Winter Olympics 2014. Within a very short time we performed a large scale construction and reconstruction of sea and on-shore infrastructure facilities at the port of Sochi. In the result, the central part of Sochi obtained a new look and became a favorite leisure area for citizens and guests of the resort. All the newly built facilities were highly praised by the state leaders, specialists and guests of the Olympics. As for the port of Sochi, it is now one of the most advanced passenger ports in the Black Sea region.

My congratulations on the company anniversary to all who share our common goal, who is working for the further development and prosperity of the company – seamen and shore service personnel.

I express gratitude to the company shareholders who have been always providing support and help us achieve higher results. Without doubt, our company will fulfill all its obligations to them this anniversary year again.

I would like to offer my special congratulations to our honoured veterans. Your knowledge has not been wasted, we still use your experience and we will follow closely your principles of safety and quality when pursuing our strategic goals.

    Novoship President                   Yu. Tsvetkov
