Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg launches container services
JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (SPSP, a member of UCL Holding) has announced the launch of container services. The portfolio of SPSP’s services is now strengthened by handling/processing/storage of containerized cargoes, as well as their receipt/shipment from/by sea-, river-, railway- and road transportation vehicles. Before the upgrade, the containers were handled by the Company only as a supplement to project cargoes, heavyweight or oversized cargoes or as small container consignments shipped by general-purpose vessels.
As a part of new services, the third vessel call of SEA CONNECT line was welcomed by SPSP overnight into the 6th of December. 60 export containers were loaded onto “NJORD” container ship. Earlier, the ships of the line delivered import containers two times in test mode.
SPSP can handle 45-, 40- and 20-foot general purpose and reefer containers with cargoes of all danger classes (excluding oil products). Core container operations include loading/unloading of containers, temporary storage, stuffing/stripping, container depot services (allocation of quotas for temporary storage/accumulation of empty container lots on the territory of the port).
For its container operations SPSP is using two LIEBHERR mobile cranes with spreaders, five reachstackers, terminal trucks and other state-of-the-art equipment. The area for container cargo operations covers around 2 hectares including Berth no. 29, railway loading ramp, which can accommodate not less than two block trains, open storage yard with the maximum capacity of 1700 TEUs, 8660 sq. meters warehouse, stuffing/re-stuffing/stripping area, reefer area for 96 sockets, inspection area and weighing area.
“Our customers are the companies involved in export/import operations, which are looking for the wide range of services for containerized cargoes. Currently, we are negotiating the organization of regular vessel calls with the major container lines. Actual container volumes depend on the results of the negotiations”, - says Alexey Vazhov, commercial director of SPSP.
“The Line is content with both the results of handling of the vessel and cooperation with SPSP as a whole, which gives us the strong grounds for turning our calls into a regular service”, - Anton Larkin notes, the Director of SCS Russia LLC, the agent of SEA CONNECT in Russia.
As per the standards existing in container shipping industry, SPSP introduced the advanced software for time-slotting of terminal entry and electronic data exchange with the customers via the dedicated web portal.
