James Fisher secures order for Mermaid® system from Vattenfall

Vattenfall, one of Europe’s leading -wind park operators, ordered from James Fisher Marine Services (part of James Fisher and Sons plc) a full Mermaid® system license for the strategic planning of its offshore wind farm operations, Mojo Maritime said in a press release.

Mermaid® provides increased understanding of the impact of weather and tidal forces on a project’s schedule to companies involved in marine operations. By accurately simulating marine operations against historical weather and tidal data, Mermaid® enables enhanced decision-making in the early planning stages to support significant cost-savings through project optimisation.

Since its launch by Mojo Maritime – a trading division of JFMS – in autumn 2015, Mermaid® has seen significant interest from the marine industry, and become intrinsic to early adopter’s project planning processes. Vattenfall was a key participant in the development of the Mermaid system, providing user testing and feedback during its late development phases prior to launch and has gone on to order a full license.

“Mermaid is a comprehensive solution for our marine weather risk modelling. We need to know how much and for how long the weather will cost us, and Mermaid supplies the answers. It’s fully flexible, being able to model the smallest operations to large-scale programmes and its easy-to-use interface allows us to model fast, and iterate project plans quickly.” Explained Anne Lina Holy, project simulation analyst at Vattenfall.

With a proven track record of success, Mermaid® allows users to realistically simulate marine operations to uncover risks and critical operations prior to going offshore, which can be critical to the success and cost-effectiveness of an operation. Its flexible licensing model makes it affordable for the smallest marine operators to the largest project developers and new users can benefit from a two-week trial period as well.

“The high quality platform design ensuring that policies for data security and data protection are met, as well as a reliable update mechanism, means that Mermaid fits easily within our IT policies and infrastructure,” said Anders Wilhelmsson, IT demand, business area wind at Vattenfall.

“Not to mention, the support from Mojo developers is first-class; responsive, helpful and knowledgeable.” Holy adds.

    About Mermaid®
Managing the weather risk on sophisticated marine operations has always been tough. In response to this problem, Mojo Maritime have developed Mermaid, a unique planning and risk optimisation tool. Mermaid models operations down to the minute, outpacing traditional exceedence analysis. It also understands that the weather varies across your operation, outsmarting simple weather windowing. Mermaid flourishes when you use multiple vessels, ports and teams. And unlike generic project management tools, it doesn’t assume that your operation stops at night.

    About Mojo Maritime
Mojo Maritime Ltd. specialises in Project Management, Engineering and Consultancy services for the marine renewable energy industry, managing projects in offshore wind, wave and tidal energy.
